Filmed over a five-year period, Henriett's Foster’s new film Beyond the Grace Note looks at at some of the most remarkable and resilient female conductors, and the joys and challenges that the profession brings.

Conductors featured in the film include Marin Alsop, Mirga Gražinytė-Tyla, Xian Zhang, Jane Glover, Joana Carneiro and Sian Edwards. They share their own stories on the podium, along with their students – some of whom are trying conducting for the first time.

The film challenges why there should be more women on the podium and proves that conducting should be more accessible.

Henrietta Foster is an established journalist, television producer and film-maker, whose previous films include Millennium Mind, a 1999 feature with philosopher Alain de Botton.

Beyond the Grace Note will be premiered in the UK on Sky Arts on 8 March 2020.
