For the March 2018 episode, editor Oliver Condy, deputy editor Jeremy Pound, reviews editor Rebecca Franks and editorial assistant Freya Parr chat about the ambitious centennial season in 2018-2019 from the Los Angeles Philharmonic, the retirement of music director Stephen Cleobury from the Choir of King’s College, Cambridge, how music venues and churches will now have better protection from local residents and the launch of Irish National Opera.

Pianist Paul Lewis is the cover star of the March 2018 issue of BBC Music Magazine, and he also features on our exclusive cover CD, playing works by Schnittke, Weber, Shostakovich and Liszt – which you can find out more about in this episode. Plus we celebrate International Women’s Day, with features on the composers Lili Boulanger, Florence Price and Fanny Mendelssohn.

Our Recording of the Month is cellist Laura van der Heijden’s debut recording, with pianist Petr Limonov, of Russian works for cello and piano on Champs Hill Records. Van der Heijden was winner of BBC Young Musician in 2012; in our First Listen section we also feature the debut recording of the 2016 winner, cellist Sheku Kanneh-Mason. You can hear clips from all these recordings, plus music by Vasks, Britten and Schubert.
