Domingo Hindoyan announced as new chief conductor of the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra
The Venezuelan conductor will succeed Vasily Petrenko as chief conductor in 2021
The Royal Philharmonic Orchestra has announced that Venezuelan conductor Domingo Hindoyan will take over from Vasily Petrenko as its chief conductor.
Hindoyan will take on the role at the start of the 2021/22 season, when Petrenko moves onto the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra in London. Petrenko has held the Liverpool position since 2006, when he became the orchestra’s youngest ever principal conductor at just 29.
Hindoyan is also principal guest conductor with the Polish National Radio Symphony Orchestra. As well as conducting, Hindoyan is a violinist, having learned as part of the music education programme El Sistema in Venezuela. In 2013, he became first assistant to Daniel Barenboim at the Deutsche Staatsoper Berlin.
He is scheduled to conduct violinist Tasmin Little in Vaughan Williams’s The Lark Ascending, as well as works by Kodály, Ravel and Bartók in October this year.
